ABOUT THE HOST: It’s pronounced surf–and yes–it is his real name, promise. Cerphe has been on rock radio in Washington, DC for 35+ years and is as passionate about green living as he is about music. Named “Greenest DJ in America” and appointed to the Global Advisory Committee by Earth Day Network, Cerphe hosts The Progressive Show and Global Café on Eco Planet Radio and the Vinyl Vault on cerphe.com. Cerphe began his broadcast career at WHFS while an art major at American University.
After a long run at WHFS, Cerphe moved on to legendary DC rock stations WAVA, DC101, WJFK and ClassicRock 94.7 before landing at Eco Planet Radio where he shares his passion for green living and great music. During a broadcast career that spans more than three decades, Cerphe has shared conversations with superstars including George Harrison of The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, showing his unique ability to reveal a celebrity’s personality, not just their perceived image.
During his legendary career, Cerphe has talked with Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Wonder, Little Feat, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, Billy Joel, Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead, BB King, Bonnie Raitt, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Elton John, Tom Waits, The Allman Brothers, Journey, Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson. Cerphe hosted an intimate evening with Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash for the Smithsonian Institute and was Master of Ceremonies at the Blue Diamond Inaugural Ball for The White House. Cerphe’s Progressive Show is a one-hour music program showcasing top artists from yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
